Is the idea that humans cause global warming the widest-reaching scam in modern history?

I won’t re-hash all the reasons why there is largely ignored but genuine scientific dissent that global warming is caused by human activity, but it certainly appears to be an enormously delusional phenomenon. Could it be the widest-reaching kool-aid slurp in modern human history?

I don’t label AGW as a hoax or a scam. However, it is a lot like a religion. Some people believe in AGW because they can get something out of it. It might be money, it might be power, it might be population reduction, it might be the reduction of capitalism, it might be to introduce more socialism into governments, it might be the reduction of fossil fuel use, etc.

Heck, there are even some people that support anything that appears to harm the environment. It doesn’t matter if it’s true or half true or not true at all, it just needs to sound good. To be fair, there are the paranoid right that would be against virtually any type of big government program and would call pretty well anything government related to be a conspiracy.

So you can see that AGW fits so many diverse motivations that it is a hugely attractive issue for many. It doesn’t need to be a hoax or a scam. It’s more like a false tool that different people can use for different purposes, none of which are going to help the average Joe.
